Fifteen and The Wedding Vine say I do!

October 17th, 2012

website design

We are proud to unveil our latest website design for ‘The Wedding Vine’. The Wedding Vine is an online shop, directory and inspiration hub for everything bridal! Our girl Lofty was really excited to work on this job as she’s recently got engaged so could definitely relate to the subject matter!

What we have created for The Wedding Vine combines a wedding directory, online shop, wedding inspiration, real weddings section and blog. The online shop caters to the style conscious bride which a variety of jewellery, millinary and tiaras from top name designers. Our favourite part of the website is the ‘Real Weddings’ section which really shows off what The Wedding Vine is capable of inspiring and the journey that the happy couple take from planning to saying the “I Do’s”

Claire from The Wedding Vine said:
“We can’t thank you enough for the fantastic job you have done on our homepage and online shop. Ollie and the team were so easy to work with. They listened to us and understood our business needs completely, bringing fresh ideas to the table and using their experience and expertise to advise and guide us along the way. The result – a fantastic new look site which both our clients and our readers love! Thank you Fifteen Design!”

The website design is fresh and inviting, themed around an elegant white and duck egg blue theme which reflects the nature of the site.  So if you’re a bride to be, mum of the bride, groom, bridesmaid or are just feeling a little bit weddingy we would recommend you check out their website! www.theweddingvine.com

Fifteen billed the Radio Stars

October 12th, 2012

We don’t like to brag about our more well known clients but we felt that not only could this weeks blog showcase another great job we’ve completed but also help try and find them the man of her dreams!

Having worked with Sam and Amy from Gem 106 before, it was no surprise when the contacted us and asked us to design a poster for their latest escapade – a complete Life Swap. Amy will be moving into Sams family home and Sam will be living Amys single life in Leicester. Whilst living Amys life, Sam thought it would be a great idea to arrange a speed dating night at a local Leicester Bar to “Find Amy a Man”.

We came up with a cheeky little poster just for the team at Gem 106 and we hope that with the aid of Fifteen Designs creativity, we might be able to attract some eligible batchelors to whisk MS Voce of her feet! Fingers Crossed!

It’s my birthday….tomorrow.

September 28th, 2012

So there I was, the day before my actual birthday just working away at Fifteen Towers. I wasn’t expecting any fuss because, let’s face it, it’s not REALLY  my birthday today! But those guys at Fifteen Design know how to treat their team and it wasn’t long before I was greeted with a massive bunch of flowers and in true Fifteen Design style…a Caterpillar Cake! Hugs, kisses and cards were exchanged and then lunchtime came! We had another treat of pizza and to top it off a bag of jelly sweets. I think we’re all feeling pretty full of food now, how will I ever manage tomorrow?

I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Fifteen for all their love today, they always know how to make me feel special :)

Rugs, Mugs and Balls

Fifteen Mugs, Rug and Golf Balls

As you can imagine, as a design and brand agency, we have loads of clients that approach us wanting us to design corporate gifts, usually to give away at exhibitions or around Christmas time. For us, its always been something that we’ve never thought about doing for ourselves but always come up with ideas for others. That is until now. Over the last few months Fifteen Design have started to get the brand out to as many people as we can through various different channels. You may have seen our blog a couple of months ago unveiling the Fifteen Machine (our branded Smart Car) or if you‘ve been lucky, you may have seen it driving around. We’ll we’ve just taken our branded “stuff” count to the next level!

Our first purchase was a selection of Fifteen Design Mugs. We all have our own mugs in the studio but sometimes, particularly if we were very busy, the washing up would get left and when it came to the morning round of teas and coffees, the OCD sufferers in the office would complain that they couldn’t drink out of any other mug. So, what better way to get round this than to give everyone the same mug so no one knows who’s is who’s and if the washing up gets left there’s enough for everyone to have 2 mugs. Simples!

The next thing we decided to get branded was hardly a team decision. There’s only one member of the Fifteen team that plays golf and they decided that another great way for us to promote ourselves was to get branded Golf balls. Now as I don’t play myself and having seen the afore mentioned person on the driving range, if you would like to get your hands on these limited edition Titleist balls, they are available in water hazards, bunkers, woodlands and beyond the “out of bounds” areas of all good local golf courses. ;)

Our third and final addition isn’t really one for our clients (unless you come and visit us at the office that is). We got fed up with having to clean the wooden floor in our office every time it rains and someone walked in and left footprints, so what better way to keep an clean floor that with our beautiful branded Fifteen Design rug! Why did we get a branded rug instead of a normal bog standard rug to wipe our feet on, you may ask? The answer is simply…because we can.

…and that’s a wrap!

September 7th, 2012

NHS Speech Day

We love working with one of our longest standing clients, Nottingham High School, and we are proud to unveil their annual Speech Day programme for this year. The informative piece of literature design showcases the outstanding results and achievements the boys of Nottingham High School have obtained over the school year.

Nottingham High School

This year however, is rather special for Nottingham High School as they are to celebrating their 500th year! With this in mind, we wanted to make the Speech Day programme that little bit more special this year by celebrating years passed. Working closely with the team at Nottingham High School we developed a poster which folded up into a poster ‘wrap’ for the programme. Sourcing old archived photos and sketches from centuries passed we had an old style theme on the front of the poster, focussing around an old sketch of the school building.
On the other side of the wrap we focused on the present day school and students, with a look to the future in the form of a timeline of the years upcoming events.

NHS Speech Day

Judy from Nottingham High School was delighted with the programme and wrap, she said:
“The programmes have arrived! They look great – thank you so much! The commemorative cover is really eye-catching…great job – well done!”

NHS Speech Day

We hope that some of the old students of Nottingham High School that will be attending the Speech Day will be able to spot themselves on the old side of the poster wrap! We think it would be a great memento for old and new students alike. You never know, in another 500 years time they might be digging this out of the archives for the school’s millennial celebrations!

Fifteen Design get serious

August 31st, 2012

Brand and Design Agency Nottingham

So, there we were, sat in the office on a Friday afternoon, working hard, making sure that all of our projects were in place for the weekend when out of the blue, the cry came from our Creative Director “I think we need to have a design team photo!” Well that was it. We were all told to down tools, make ourselves look presentable and marched outside into the grotty, rat-infested courtyard at the back of the building where Darren proceeded to take what seemed like an age to set up the tripod whilst we all argued about who was going to stand where.

Finally after about five minutes we were ready for the photo to be taken. The camera was put on timer and this is the best of what can only be described as a bad bunch!

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about our photo and any other photo ideas you may have for the Fifteen Design team.

London 2012, you are gold!

August 10th, 2012

Whilst Fifteen Design are winding down this Friday evening, we’ve been discussing the Olympics and there impact on the country over the past two weeks. We are proud as punch of Team GB and the sheer amount of talent displayed this year. At the time of writing this, Team GB have gone through the blood, sweat and tears and gained 54 medals! They haven’t done this well in over 100 years, when Tug-of-War was an Olympic event!

What we have been interested in, is the sudden change of heart towards the Olympic branding since the games begun. Back in 2007, the official London 2012 logo was released. It was met with a torrent of negative reviews, including fears that the colour scheme cause epileptic fits! What was concerning to some was the cost of the logo, which was a reported  at £400,000. What some people failed to realise was that the logo was merely part of the costing, and that the fee covered the whole branding exercise. Now we at Fifteen Design know the difference between getting a logo and getting a whole identity, but such controversy will always blow facts like this way out of proportion!

What has followed the backlash against the logo, is that the branding of the Olympics has suddenly been thrust upon us this year and you know what… it’s rather good! The whole identity really works as a whole and really pushes the spirit of the games.

What has potentially let the Olympics down this year, is the fierce brand protection. The stringent rules that brands must abide by have been met with a large amount of criticism. In the olympic village for example, the only food retailer allowed to sell chips is ‘official olympics sponsor’ McDonalds. Chips?! You mean that famously British staple food?
Other examples include the ‘Brand Police’ setting out against business not affiliated with the Olympics using terms such as ‘London 2012′, ‘Medals’ and ‘Summer’ in their advertising. It may be protecting the Olympic brand, which is a massive selling point for the brands affiliated, but some companies have found some humorous ways to bend the rules!
The betting company ‘Paddy Power’ recently posted a billboard which stated “Official sponsor of the largest athletics event in London this year!”
What they were actually referring to was the egg and spoon race at a local sports event in London, France.

We also recently took part in The Drum’s ‘Fauxlympics’ competition, a chance to poke fun at the Olympic branding rules. The results were announced today, unfortunately we didn’t place but we did have a lot of fun and some of the entries were hilarious! The overall winner of the competition created a spoof advert for Viagra which would have definitely have been taken down quicker than Usain Bolt could finish the 100m!

What has been the most apparent during the Olympic Games this year though, is the sheer spirit of Great Britain, backing the athletes competing in the games more than ever. 2012 truly is the most proud year for Britain and we’ve enjoyed every minute of the games!

Now we’re just looking forward to The Spice Girls playing at the closing ceremony!

Drum Roll please…

July 31st, 2012

Now, we at Fifteen Design are all about getting the job done and taking our jobs very seriously, but once in a while a silly opportunity arises that you just can’t ignore!

Advertising Campaign Design

The good people at The Drum launched a competition last week which called upon creatives everywhere to produce an advert for their ‘Fauxlympics’.
The aim of the competition is to poke a little bit of fun at the Olympic ‘brand police’ that are cracking down on small businesses capitalising on the games’ popularity. It also highlights what kind of advertising breaks the rules and what would get away with it! In general we think it is a good branding guideline exercise that we could have a bit of fun with!

The competition covers several categories, including ‘The Sprint’ (Guerrilla ads that would be taken down faster than Usain Bolt can run 100 metres) which we think our advert probably would come under!

So what did we come up with? Well, our office was pretty split in opinion after the Olympics opening ceremony on Friday night so we thought that we would cover the issue of the NHS being part of the £27million spectacle! and here it is…

Olympics Branding

Let us know what you think! It’s just a bit of a laugh but it’s had a great response from you guys on twitter and Facebook!

Fifteen Design create a suite of booklets for the WEA

July 27th, 2012

Earlier on in the year Fifteen Design were invited to tender for a project with the Workers’ Education Association. The WEA are the UK’s largest voluntary-sector provider of adult education.
We presented ourselves to the East Midlands district of the WEA to produce 7 prospectus’s over Nottingham, Derby, Lincolnshire and more. The prospectus’s cover the years worth of courses on every subject from the spanish language to flower arranging. Our proposal and creative skills really impressed the team at WEA and we were successful in our tender.

We set to work on a comprehensive schedule so we could deliver the best to the WEA and in plenty time to get their publications distributed. Meanwhile our creative team were working on a great design that would carry throughout the set of prospectus’s. Using new photography that the WEA commissioned we came up with a dynamic cover design that really shows what the WEA is about (diverse learning) and showcases the variety of courses they cover. Along with our colour coding between different areas we were onto a winner!

As the days of putting the prospectus’s together were coming to a close our team were really intrigued by the scope of courses offered by the WEA. Our favourite in particular being titled ‘The only way is ethics!’

After several weeks working together with the WEA we completed the brochures within the schedule and they were sent to print!

They are printed on a lovely uncoated recycled paper, FSC accredited, which reflects the WEA’s ethics. We’re really pleased with the outcome and the lovely comments from WEA learners have also been sent through to us at Fifteen Design since the booklets have been delivered.

Rick Marshall from the WEA was kind enough to send us this comment:
“I have just had a call from one of our learners who wanted to congratulate us on the production of the new brochure. He particularly wanted to praise the layout and style but thought that the brochure overall was exceptional and very professional. He asked me to pass on his comments and a his congratulations to all involved.”

Top Marks for Fifteen Design and Selston High School

July 13th, 2012

Back in May we posted about our recent brand design for Selston High School. Now we are pleased to announce our latest project for the school.

To coincide with their rebrand and launch in September, Selston required a new prospectus which reflects their new look. Selston were first keen to get their new uniform into production though and Fifteen Design were there to lend a hand to the design of the school attire! We were keen on a thick stripe design for the new school tie in the brand colours of blue and silver. We had several samples made up and the school loved our ideas. The uniform also compromised of a grey jumper and a blazer carrying the crest we designed on the pocket. A new PE kit is also being introduced which is now in the new navy and silver colour scheme.

Before we even thought about touching the design of the prospectus though, we knew we had to get a good portfolio of photography for the school and we knew just the man for the job, our man behind the lens, David Baird.

Along with David, our Ollie and Lofty went down to the school over two days to art direct and shoot every area of the school. On the first day of the shoot we were keen to try and capture as many of the subjects as we could so that we could use our second day to capture a few fun and candid shots too, aswell as the photographs required for the prospectus. A select few students were free from their classes for a couple of days to model the new uniform around the school. Several of them commented on their new uniforms, describing them as ‘much smarter’ and that they enjoyed wearing them a lot more than the previous uniform.

Now we had the new uniforms and the photography covered, it was time to hit the ground running with the prospectus design. We were very pleased with how much creative control the school gave us on the whole project so far and it wasn’t any different for the prospectus. In the end we went with a soft touch laminate and foiling on the front cover, we think this really lifts out the schools branding and creates a massive impact for parents when they receive the prospectus. We really wanted to let the brilliant photography do the talking and fill the majority of the prospectus. We went for a simple gird layout which allowed a lot of fresh space for the photographs to sit against.

The school are absolutely thrilled with the final piece which was delivered to the school this week. We’re equally as happy with the final result and consider it one of our best pieces of work!

Keep your eyes peeled for more of our up and coming work for the school included a website design which is well underway.

Smart move by Fifteen Design

July 9th, 2012

Now it may come as a surprise to a few of you but in today’s environmentally aware society, the importance of being as seen to be doing your bit to help the environment has increased dramatically. The term “carbon footprint” has become used by companies to help show that they do care about the environment and that they consider themselves “green”. No one more so than the Blue Castle Group. Blue Castle have several companies under its umbrella, all working towards making the worlds resources last longer and helping companies save money in the long run.

Being experts in the field of waste removal and energy saving, the team at Blue Castle jumped at the opportunity to broaden their horizons by joining forces with American company Smart Trash.

Despite running successfully in America for the last few years, Smart Trash UK needed the help of Fifteen Design to come up with an eye-catching brand, website and even more excitingly, a fully animated video as the showpiece. Making the video the focal point of the website meant that we had to make sure that the finished article really reflected the work that Smart Trash do and explain clearly and easily exactly what the product does. So, we set off in the first instance to make sure WE understood what the product did and how it worked. This involved working very closely with the Smart Trash team of Dan and Natalia and penning the all-important script that would determine the length and timings of the animations. Luckily for us they were a dream to work with and made our job very easy (despite the 8 hour time difference) and we were able to put together the script in no time.

Having the script enabled our team of animators to work their magic bringing the waste compactor to life and making the ramrod action as smooth and accurate as its real life equivalent. As the video progressed we could see exactly how the video was going to turn out and its been a true testament to all of the people that have been involved in the project and most importantly we hope the team at Smart Trash are as happy with the final outcome as we are.

Why not let us know what you think by watching the video and leaving your comments below.

The Fifteen Machine hits the road

June 29th, 2012

It’s been an exciting week at Fifteen Towers! We are pleased to announce two new additions to the team!

Fifteen Design Car

First up is our new placement student, Adam Poxon. He joined us at the start of the week and will be staying with us for 10 weeks to learn all the tricks from the Fifteen Design team. We thought his work was great and we are thrilled to have him start with us. He has been thrown headfirst into several projects already and has batted them back to the delight of us and our clients. Adam originally studied Graphic Design at New College Nottingham and graduated last year. We wish him all the luck with us and hope he enjoys his time as part of the Fifteen Design team.

Secondly we introduce the ‘Fifteen Machine’, Fifteen Design’s very own Smart Car! Our Simon had his eye on one since the start of the year and we were delighted to give him the keys to the new set of wheels. We branded up the car in our style and colours and are keen to see the Fifteen Machine fly through the streets of Nottingham! If you see Simon cruising around town tweet us @fifteendesign and let us know!

It may be small, but it’s powerful, a lot like ourselves!

Fifteen Design follow the North Star

June 15th, 2012

Brand and design agency, Fifteen Design have been working very closely with a new local brewery ‘North Star’ over the past few months.

They came to us back in early 2011 with an idea for their new ales they were brewing up in a local Ilkeston brewery. We were thrilled to be involved and were really excited to get stuck in with the project. It was later on in the year when Dawn and Richard came back to us with their brand name – ‘North Star’.

Brand and Design agency

We put pen to paper and started sketching up ideas for the logo. We nailed it with a traditional style typeface combined with a shooting star. The colour scheme is brown to fit in with an old style theme we were going for with the brand. The brand style combines an olde world and nautical theme after the North Star team shared with us the name of their first beer to be released – ‘Helmsman’.

beer pump clip design

Once the logo and branding was decided, North Star asked us to get cracking on the beer pump clips to be installed in the pubs their beers were being released in. The first beer was called Helmsman, the pump clip was to set the bar for the rest of the beers to come so we had to get this one bang on! We think the final outcome really reflects the theme of the North Star brand and also the beer quality.

Once ‘Helmsman’ was released we took a trip to the North Star brewery for ‘research’ (or ‘cheeky beer testing’). We really enjoyed getting to know the process of the beer making, and since the start of the project the brewery was really getting busy after a great response from the first beer.

North Star were soon ready to release two more beers, ‘Astronomer’ and ‘Pathfinder’, both of which followed the template of the first pump clip but had new colours schemes and bespoke illustrations. Again these have received a really positive response!

North Star is now rolling out across many of the local pubs but we reckon it won’t be long before they’re taking the country by storm! Watch out for North Star in your pubs in the near future!

School specialists?

June 1st, 2012

Every week at Fifteen Design we get different industries contacting us to help them with their design and marketing needs. In fact that’s one of the best things about us, we can work in any sector. However, over the last year there has been one industry in which we constantly have at least one job that we’re working on. Schools.

prospectus design

The team as a whole has quite a lot of experience in working in the educational sector and we know that schools and more importantly education as a whole is being ran more and more like a business. With this in mind, schools are now vying for students and its important that they give the parents and students a good first impression of the school and with many schools now also being awarded academy status its important to have a strong school prospectus.

Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth contacted us at the beginning of the year as they were preparing to be awarded academy status in September 2012. They’d seen the work we had done for other schools particularly the Nottingham Boys High School and quickly appointed Fifteen to tackle the new school prospectus.

We wanted to give them the best possible service and knew that in order to achieve what we wanted, we would need new photos. We enlisted the help of friend of Fifteen, David Baird to take the photos and he took a great selection of photos which made our job much easier.

prospectus design

Working with Ms McFaull at Joseph Whitaker made our live much easier. She had a clear idea about what they wanted and it was down to us to deliver. We had a very image led design in mind and using David’s photos, we were able to give a good feel of what the school is like without using too many words.

The school was really pleased with what we created and you can even see the testimonial from the school on our website.

Fifteen Design wipe the floor with the competition

May 25th, 2012

Branding experts Fifteen Design have been up tot their old tricks again by producing stunning branding work for paper and tissue manufacturers Alliance Paper.

brand and design agency

Having worked with the Wolverhampton based company in the past, designing some packaging for their new range of tissues, the guys at Alliance had no hesitation on calling on Fifteen Design to rebrand the dated looking logo.

The task was given to new boy Darren as an opportunity to really get his teeth into a branding exercise with very little or no brief. Darren immediately began sketching furiously and after a few hours was able to produce the first round draft of designs before whisking them off to Alliance to have a look at.

Having already worked with Alliance before proved to be a huge advantage. The initial twelve concept ideas were very quickly dwindled down to four with an a common device being used to support the typeface which meant that we were getting closer to the final design. A few round later and we were down to the final two.

We wanted to design something modern but wouldn’t look dated in a few years time and that communicated what Alliance Paper do in a simple way yet affective way.

Having played around with the two designs and another couple of fonts, the client decided on this one:

branding design

As you can see, the two “rolls of paper” in the blue really stand out in white but the logo also has versatility to be used in black on white or reversed out. The two rolls also signified the fact that Alliance make Paper and tissue.

We are really pleased with Darrens work on this brand and know that there will be many many more logos coming from both Darren and the rest of the team at Fifteen Design – In fact Alliance Paper and Tissue have already commissioned us to start working on several more rebrands for the rest of their ranges so watch this space for more progress updates over the next few weeks.

A* for Selston High School rebrand

May 18th, 2012

Brand and design agency, Fifteen Design, are pleased to unveil their latest rebrand for Selston High School.

The school, previously ‘Selston Arts and Community College’, has gone through a full rebrand for the upcoming 2012-13 term. Fifteen Design have been working very closely with the school to achieve a brand which they thought really reflected the school and it’s values.

We first went to the school to give some of the pupils a lesson on logos and branding. Now, we wouldn’t describe ourselves as teachers but the lesson went down really well with the students and teachers involved! The pupils then put their ideas into the logo design by brainstorming about the schools heritage and community involvement. This session really helped the Fifteen Design team to create a brand that not only looked fantastic, but also really represented the school’s history. The meaning behind the brand is also strengthened by the involvement from the pupils which went down really well with the school.

We’ve recently created a stationery pack for the school compromising of letterheads, compliment slips, business cards, continuity sheets and notepads. These will be utilised in the new school year when the school officially rebrands to ‘Selston High School’

Last week the Fifteen Design team were also involved in a photo shoot at the school after their new uniforms were created. We’re working on something really special for the school, involving photography by local award winning photographer David Baird, so watch this space for more on Selston High School!

Seconds out, Round Fifteen.

new logo design

When you think of boxing, you often think about the glamour and glitz of a World Heavyweight Championship fight held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and not necessarily the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham. But that’s all about to change and Fifteen Design have teamed up with former English Middleweight Champion and Nottingham born boxer Adnan Amar.

Now we cant profess to be boxing experts, nor can we say we’d even heard of Adnan before but it wasn’t long before we go to know all about him. A photographer friend of Fifteen Design got in contact with us and said that she was helping Adnan to get sponsorship for his upcoming fight at the Capital FM Arena. Adnan is fighting on the undercard of another Nottingham born boxer; former World Champion Carl Froch. This got our brains ticking! We thought that if we could give Adnan the benefit of design expertise then we would both be onto a winner.

We’ve been working closely with Adnan on his new brand recently and we are proud to unveil it today! As well as Adnan Amar’s brand, we are also designing and building his brand new website www.adnanamar.com. In exchange for this, Adnan will be sporting the Fifteen Design logo on his shorts, robe, t-shirts and hats.

So keep and eye out for the Fifteen Design logo on Adnans shorts on 26th May!
